Owl’s Eye Media, formerly known as Onyx Owl Tours, was founded in 2017 when Matterport tours were still a new technology and Andy had a college internship creating 3D tours of vacant office spaces for a property management company. Our founder, Claudia Murray, had the vision to apply this technology to real estate—an idea which was unusual at the time, believe it or not.

Since then, we have completed over 700 3D tours—everything from small residential homes in Maine, to a chain of convenience stores in the Midwest, to large hotels & commercial properties through the Northeast.

The technologies available to customize and maximize the interactive capabilities of 3D tours have changed exponentially since we started out, and we we have always done our best to grow and adapt with the technology along the way.

Our original name, “Onyx Owl”, was, first of all, an alliteration, which we think is always a fun start for a company name. However, the name itself comes from the first 3D camera that we used—the Matterport Pro2—which is a black box that rotates 360º…like an owl!

One we found our name, we’ve had our fair share of fun with it; we named our product bundles “Kit and Ca-hoot-le” and “2 Birds, 1 Stone”, we feature “A 3D Tour Can Make ‘Owl’ the Difference” on our business cards, and if we’re busy when you give us a call, you’ll hear a fun message on our voicemail as well…

Nowadays, with a greater focus on our 3D tour photography, a rebrand to “Owl’s Eye Media” felt fitting without abandoning where we came from.
